Supplies: 1 Skein Cat Mountain Fiber Arts Fusion 250 yarn. Fusion 250 consists of 50 yards each of 5 different yarns.

The order in which you use the yarns is not critical. However, it is suggested that you use alternate smooth (of which there are 3) with textured (of which there are 2) yarns, thus starting and ending with a smooth one.

The finished sample used all of the yarn in the skein (please see information about this in the pattern text) and measures 6.5 inches wide and 52 inches in diameter.

Cast on 200 Stitches with the yarn you wish to start with (we’ll refer to this one as Yarn A, and the other four yarns as Yarns B, C, D, and E). Join in the round, being careful not to twist.

Tip – When I am joining a large number of stitches in the round, I work the first one or two rows flat before joining, as having a little bit of knitting worked makes it much easier to see the edge and avoid twisting. You can then use the yarn tail to sew up a tiny seam at the join from the row(s) you worked flat.

Note – the stitch pattern for this cowl is rows of stockinette (knit all rows when working in the round) alternated with reverse stockinette (purl all rows when working in the round). If you choose to work one or more initial rows flat, you will need to adjust your work accordingly.

There is enough of each yarn to work approximately 9 to 11 rows. Because I like to maximize my yardage, I knit until each one ran out which resulted in beginning the next ball in the middle of rows. If this bothers you and you simply must change yarns at the beginning of a row, then you should work the cowl as follows, bearing in mind that your finished cowl will be slightly smaller than our sample.

You’ll probably run out of Yarn A somewhere in the fifth round of Reverse stockinette. NO worries! Join Yarn B where Yarn A runs out and carry on working five or so rounds in stockinette and five or so rounds in reverse stockinette (as mentioned, you’ll get nine to eleven rounds total out of each yarn), change yarns when you run out while maintaining the pattern, and bind off with Yarn E after about five rounds in reverse stockinette. Just make sure you leave yourself enough to bind off with.
