Gauge is not critical, but if your gauge varies substantially towards fewer stitches per inch than the above, you may run out of yarn before completing the stripe sequence listed in the pattern.

After blocking, the finished scarf measures approximately 66 inches long (excluding fringe) and is 4.5 inches wide.

The order in which you use the yarns is not critical. You may also choose to knit each one until it runs out for a slightly larger scarf. Fringe is optional.

Fringe:

Cut fringe in lengths of 12 to 14 inches, 8 to 12 per yarn type. Attach 2 to 3 doubled fringe lengths (4 to 6 of the yarn located in the center band) at each end on the matching stripes with a crochet hook, and knot fringe yarns of the same type together with an overhand knot, approximately one inch from the end of the scarf. Trim to a matching length.

Soak in warm water with a drop of shampoo or wool wash, roll in a towel or spin in the washer, and pin out flat to dry. Note: You may wish to attach the fringe after you block it, to keep it from getting tangled during blocking.
