Supplies: Cat Mountain Fiber Arts Fusion 1000 Yarn Bundle, 914 Meters/1,000 yards, 5.5 mm /US Size 9 circular needle, 100 cm/36 inches or longer, four stitch markers
Gauge: 4 Stitches/6 Rows = 2.5 cm/1 Inch (after blocking) The sample project and this pattern will fit a range of sizes, approximately women’s Size 10 to 22. The finished poncho measures approximately 30 inches long from neck to hem at the longest point, and approximately 44 inches wide at the widest point. For reference, the person wearing the poncho in the above photo is a women’s size 12-14. Fusion 1000 Bundles consist of 10 yarns of different fibers and textures that are 100 yards each. When wound, you will have 10 separate balls. Before beginning, plan the order of the yarns that you will use. This sample was knit with each yarn until it ran out (with the exception of the last one, we left enough for a garter edge and bind off) with the intent to show off the multi-textured yarn. It is suggested that you alternate textured skeins with smooth skeins to the extent possible to maximize the multi-textured effect. Instructions: Round 3: Knit all stitches, slipping markers Round 5: Knit all stitches, slipping markers Round 6: Purl all stitches, slipping markers Round 7: Knit to first marker (50 stitches), Yarn Over, slip marker, Knit 6, slip marker, Yarn Over, Knit to third marker (50 stitches), Yarn Over, slip marker, Knit 6, slip marker, Yarn Over. 4 Stitches increased this round. Round 8: Knit all stitches, slipping markers Round 9: Knit to first marker (51 stitches), Yarn Over, slip marker, Knit 6, slip marker, Yarn Over. Knit to third marker (52 stitches), Yarn Over, slip marker, Knit 6, slip marker, Yarn Over. 4 Stitches increased this round Continue as above, starting a new yarn ball as each one runs out. The established pattern is to increase four stitches in each odd numbered round, with one stitch increased at each side of the two sets of markers, and work even numbered rounds with no increases. All rounds are knit, except on every tenth round, which is purled. You will begin to see broad tips at the front and back of the work, which will form the attractive “V” shape of the front and back of the poncho. Please note that the purl rounds are optional – you may knit all rounds if you prefer, or space the purl rounds more or less frequently. We liked the way the ten row spacing looked on ours. When you get to the last ball of yarn, be sure to leave enough for the edge, you’ll need enough for about four rounds plus bind off. The edge is worked as follows: Edge Round 1: Purl all stitches, removing markers (you may wish to leave the fourth one so you know where the end of the round is). Edge Round 2: Knit all stitches. Edge Round 4: Knit all stitches. Bind off Purl wise. Weave in the ends. Block by soaking in water with a drop of shampoo or wool wash, then spin in your washer or roll in a towel and shape on a flat surface to dry. Wear and look beautiful! |
